What exactly is a globe chandelier?

A globe chandelier is a multi-lamp fitting whose frame or shade forms a spherical shape, projecting light outward in all directions simultaneously.

A globe chandelier is defined by its geometry: arms, rods, or a continuous frame arranged in a sphere or orb, holding multiple lamp positions around the circumference. Unlike a traditional tiered chandelier — where light projects primarily downward from cascading arms — a globe distributes illumination radially, creating a lit centrepiece rather than a directed downlight.

The category spans a wide range of constructions. Some use open metalwork frames with exposed bulbs at each node, relying on filament lamps for visual drama. Others enclose the sphere in glass panels — ribbed, clear, or frosted — which diffuse the output and reduce glare.
