Choose microwave only where you need coverage in a confined space with an obstructed view, such as a covered walkway with pillars, or where very small movements must register. Both types allow adjustment of detection range, lux threshold (so the light only activates after dark) and hold time, typically 10 seconds to 10 minutes. Set the lux threshold to daylight-inhibited mode so the fitting ignores movement during the day and the lamp lasts longer.

Where should you position a motion sensor outdoor ceiling light?
